Analyzing State-Wide Findings of Texas School Districts Broken Down Into English Learners/District By 5% Increments:
The image above demonstrates how Texas school districts perform on STAAR exams (general performance, ELA/Reading sections, Writing sections, Mathematics sections, Science sections, and Social Studies Sections), SAT exams, and ACT exams.
How to Interpret Findings for the First Row:
A - How Texas schools with X% of English Learners (X% EL) are incrementalized. For instance, all the information on the second row of the spreadsheet is specific to schools with fewer than 5% of English Learners.
B - Average number of student per school; first row has an average of 1,200.30 kids per school.
C - There is an average number of 3.06 schools in every Texas school district with a student body of 0-5% being considered as English Learners.
D - Number of schools that schools fall into this category; a total of 1,568 schools statewide have 0-5% English Learners.
E - Schools with 0-5% English Learners – as a whole – have 615,753 students in their schools.
F - Out of the 615,753 students in 1,568 schools, about 2.20% of them are English Learners.
Columns G-L show how these school districts perform on STAAR exams.
G - "All Subject Test Scores Meeting Grade Level Standard or Above" – 48.86% of students in the 0-5% EL range fall into this category.
H - "ELA/Reading Test Scores Meeting Grade Level Standard or Above" – 48.94% of students in the 0-5% EL range fall into this category.
I - "Writing Test Scores Meeting Grade Level Standard or Above" – 38.21% of students in the 0-5% EL range fall into this category.
J - "Mathematics Test Scores Meeting Grade Level Standard or Above" – 49.04% of students in the 0-5% EL range fall into this category.
K - "Science Test Scores Meeting Grade Level Standard or Above" – 51.88% of students in the 0-5% EL range fall into this category.
L - "Social Studies Test Scores Meeting Grade Level Standard or Above" 50.01 of students in the 0-5% EL range fall into this final category.
*Note that "All public school students in Texas, grades 3–12, take STAAR tests." (Texas Education Agency - Assessment Management)
M and O - How students within the 0-5% EL range perform on the SAT and the ACT – 1062.89 and 20.51, respectively.
N and P - How SAT and ACT test scores compare to national test takers; schools with 0-5% EL score better than 50-59% of national SAT takers and 59% better than national ACT takers.
Q - how much the average school with 0-5% English Learners invests in each pupil ($13,949.06).
R - How much the average school within the 0-5% English Learners Increment invests into their Bilingual/ESL Education Programs (0.22% of their entire budget).
